Where is Hamata Island?

The Hamata area, south of Marsa Alam in the Red Sea, is one of the most important parts of the Wadi El Gemal Reserve, whether in the desert or the sea. It was named after the sorrel plant, which was distorted to Hamata.

The torrents descend from Hamata Mountain from its high peak to the various mountain valleys, which made it rich in grass, which is food for wild animals, as the wild part extends, and the Hamata Desert and Islands attract foreign tourists, whether diving enthusiasts or mountain safaris, and the biodiversity is represented in the multiplicity of ecosystems and the creatures in it, whether terrestrial or marine, and the natural features and geological landmarks are represented by geological formations and views of breathtaking aesthetic value.

Hamata Islands region can be reached by travelling two miles into the ocean opposite Hamata village. It is full of swimming and diving spots with sandy beaches and waters teeming with corals, bright colored fishes, turtles, dolphins, which drew the attention and admiration from many travelers.

It includes 4 species of crabs, green turtles, whale sharks, sea urchins, dolphins, and more than 13 species of small fish. The mountainous area that includes Mount Hamata, which is the second highest mountain in the Red Sea after Mount Shaib al-Banat, contains mountain goats (ibex), Dorcas gazelle, which is known as the Afri, and the Ariel gazelle, one of the smallest and most common types of gazelles, ibex, antelopes, and more than 13 species of birds, including the sunset falcon.

Mountaineers come from all over to climb to the top of Mount Hamata, in addition to organizing many visits for camping enthusiasts and mountain safaris.
