Facts about Dolphin House Marsa Allam
Samadai is a crescent-shaped coral reef located about 5 kilometers from Marsa Alam city. Located about 6 nautical miles southeast of Marsa Alam shore, Samadai is 1.4 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide and is known as a treasure trove for cetaceans in the area.
The three main sites in Samadai offer diverse possibilities for all types of divers who can enjoy the cave system, the eel garden, the seagrass bed and the biodiversity of the peaks. The eventful passage of large marine animals, including barracuda, manta rays, sharks and dolphins, and the presence of microfauna, soft corals, hard corals and reef fish, make Samadai not only a great experience for divers but also for snorkelers as one of the best places to visit. And one of the most interesting and diverse destinations in the region.
The site is often referred to as the “home of the dolphins”, in reference to the fact that it is home to spinner dolphins (Stenella longirostris), a species found worldwide in tropical and subtropical latitudes, which are known to actively move and feed in the open waters at night and rest in shallow lagoons and bays during the day. Shaab El Samadai is one of the few sites in the Egyptian Red Sea that fits the criteria for an ideal resting area. This reef is oriented east to west, forming a natural lagoon open to the south, sheltered from the prevailing northerly winds, with a shallow sandy bottom and protected from waves.
Taking advantage of the quiet location with no predators or major threats, the animals can relax and recover from their nocturnal activities and the mothers lower their guard and allow their calves to rest.
