President Gamal Abdel Nasser officially opened Terminal 1 on March 18, 1963, after nearly eight years of planning and construction. As a result of this increase in arrivals, the passenger terminal (No. 2 arrival) was established, and the terminal (No. 2 travel) was established two years later in 1977.

By 2005, the number of passengers rose to 10.218 million, a 14.2% increase from 2000. International Arrivals Terminal 3 and the “Ahlan” service, which offers a distinctive hospitality experience, were inaugurated.
On May 14, 2009, the Cairo Airport Company began operating thermal cameras to measure the temperature of passengers as a precautionary measure against epidemics. In 2010, a new control tower that can manage 120 flights per hour was inaugurated, in addition to a runway to receive large aircraft, and the development of Terminal 2 began to accommodate 8 million passengers per year.
