Cairo Airport is one of the main landmarks of Egypt's modern history due to the strategic importance it plays in air transportation and is considered one of the most important airports in Africa and the Middle East due to the services it provides and provides to its users.

56 years have passed since the establishment of Cairo Airport, and it is still witnessing great and continuous development to raise its efficiency and provide many services to be the face and first gateway of Egypt for those coming from abroad. On May 18, 1963, and 56 years ago, the opening of Cairo International Airport was announced, which was a great event as at that time it was the real beginning of facilitating civil aviation for citizens.

Since the time of its inception, which is precisely up to this day, Cairo Airport has been regarded as a major landmark in Egypt’s modern history especially in regard to air transport because of its strategic importance. As a result, it remains one of Africa and the Middle East’s most prominent airports; this is primarily attributed to the service ought to be rendered to users for over sixty years now b y th e airport (Cairo Center for Development Studies).O n May 18, 1963 C ai r o International Airport was inaugurated marking an important milestone in the event that ushered in a new era of simplification of civil aviation for ordinary citizens.

The airport’s name was changed from Paine Field Airport to Farouk I Airport in 1946, and then when the July Revolution happened, the name was changed from “Farouk I Airport” to “Cairo Air Port”.
In 1955 studies were carried out on how to construct new passenger terminal so as to cope with growing travel traffic, while the location of this new building was selected between two main runways.

President Gamal Abdel Nasser officially opened Terminal 1 on March 18, 1963, after nearly eight years of planning and construction. It opened on May 18, 1963, and the building operated efficiently until 1970, when 1.268 million passengers arrived in Egypt. As a result of this increase in arrivals, the passenger terminal (No. 2 arrival) was established, and the terminal (No. 2 travel) was established two years later in 1977.

In 2004, a contract was signed to expand Cairo Airport with the construction of Terminal 3, in response to an increase in passenger numbers. By 2005, the number of passengers rose to 10.218 million, a 14.2% increase from 2000. International Arrivals Terminal 3 and the “Ahlan” service, which offers a distinctive hospitality experience, were inaugurated.

On May 14, 2009, the Cairo Airport Company began operating thermal cameras to measure the temperature of passengers as a precautionary measure against epidemics. In 2010, a new control tower that can manage 120 flights per hour was inaugurated, in addition to a runway to receive large aircraft, and the development of Terminal 2 began to accommodate 8 million passengers per year.
