Ras El Tin palace history
Ras El Tin Palace in Alexandria is an architectural beauty that embodies important periods in Egypt's ancient and modern history, especially in the era of Muhammad Ali Pasha, the founder of modern Egypt, as Muhammad Ali could not find a suitable headquarters for his high diplomatic receptions, deals and agreements between the European side and Egypt except Alexandria, so he built the Ras El Tin Palace.
Located in the centre of the coastal city, he built a royal palace worthy of Egypt's guests and rulers throughout the ages to remain a witness to an important era and is nicknamed the jewel of royal palaces in the country, as the greatest palace in the Mediterranean region to reveal its royal secrets that have been locked away for years between its walls.
As soon as you enter the palace, you feel the grandeur of the construction, precise architectural details and geometric elements that make it an unprecedented masterpiece that has no equal in the world, a foyer that takes the mind just by looking at it, where there are marble columns and walls decorated with wonderful geometric elements and precision in design that makes man bewildered in front of those hands that built, constructed and decorated.
Who built Ras el Tin Palace?
The Ras al-Tin Palace is the greatest palace in the entire Mediterranean basin, and was named Ras al-Tin, due to the presence of fig trees on the site during the time of Muhammad Ali, pointing out that the current palace is not the original palace, as the old palace was built in the form of a fortress and was constructed by Muhammad Ali to sit in the summer and personally supervise the construction of the naval fleet and the arsenal that was adjacent to it.
The palace in its current form was created in the era of Khedive Ismail Pasha, and its beauty was in the form of Italian Venetian palaces, but it had some simple additions, such as the Queen Nazli Hall, which was installed with blue glass with light, and the price per metre was £150 during the days of King Fuad, then in the era of King Farouk, additions were made to the bathhouse and they built from it an artistic and archaeological masterpiece that is unparalleled on the entire Mediterranean Sea.
When King Farouk took shelter in the palace after he left the Montazah Palace, before leaving the country, he was surrounded by July officers and an exchange of fire took place, but King Farouk asked for a ceasefire and left, noting that Alexandria has two palaces, Montazah and Ras al-Tin, where Montazah was the residence of the royal family in the summer, and Ras al-Tin was the seat of government in the summer.
Ras El Tin Palace has the most expensive yacht in the world in the modern era, the Mahrousa Yacht, with a dedicated pier called Mahrousa Pier, so Alexandria has two land and maritime masterpieces that are unrivalled in the world.
