In the center, the dome has a diameter of 21 meters and its height is 52 meters. The Citadel has seen further growth during the next 700 years since it was built by the legendary Sultan Saladin and most of it during the period of the Mamluk Sultanate. It was declared by UNESCO as the world heritage site in 1976 and is opened to the public from the year 1983.
