After a delightful breakfast, you’ll set off on an engaging Cairo day tour to explore the Giza Pyramids, Dahshur, and Memphis with our expert guide.
Begin your day with a visit to the Giza Pyramids. You’ll be astounded by the sheer scale of these monumental structures, built over 4,500 years ago by some of ancient Egypt’s most renowned rulers.
The Great Pyramid of King Cheops exemplifies the remarkable craftsmanship and engineering prowess of the ancient builders. Constructed with over 2.3 million limestone blocks, it originally stood at 146 metres high with each side measuring 230 metres. This pyramid was designed as an eternal resting place from which the king would ascend to the heavens.
Enjoy a panoramic view of the three pyramids—Cheops, Chephren, and Mycerinus—from the high plateau. Chephren, Cheops' son, built his pyramid slightly smaller at 136 metres high, with some remnants of the original outer casing still visible at the top.
See the Great Sphinx of Giza, a statue of a lion with a human head, believed to have been constructed by King Chephren. Visit the Valley Temple, where the mummification process of the king was carried out as part of the burial rites.
Next, head to the ancient city of Memphis, now known as Mit Rahina, to explore the open-air museum featuring the second-largest alabaster sphinx and the colossal statue of King Ramses II, one of the most influential pharaohs of the New Kingdom.
Conclude your tour at the Dahshur archaeological site, where you’ll see the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. These pyramids, built for King Snefru—founder of the 4th dynasty and father of King Cheops—are notable for their unique shapes. The Bent Pyramid retains much of its original casing material, making it distinctive, while the Red Pyramid, known for its reddish limestone, is recognised as the first true smooth-sided pyramid in Egypt.
Savour a delicious lunch at a highly-rated restaurant with views of the Giza Pyramids before returning to your hotel.
