Prepare for your Giza Pyramids tour with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before meeting your accredited tour guide to begin your first day of Cairo excursions. Today’s itinerary includes visits to the ancient necropolis of Saqqara and the Giza Plateau, and you’ll explore the first capital of Egypt from around 5,000 years ago.
Start with the Giza Pyramids, where you’ll see the grand structures built by Egypt’s great pharaohs of the 4th dynasty: Cheops, Chephren, and Mycerinus. The largest pyramid, belonging to King Cheops, will be explored in detail by your guide, who will explain the construction and significance of these monumental tombs. Enjoy an optional camel ride on the high plateau and have your guide take memorable photos of your experience.
Next, visit the Great Sphinx, a lion-headed figure standing 73 meters tall, and the Valley Temple, part of King Chephren's funerary complex, likely the site where his body was mummified before burial.
Your driver will then take you to Saqqara Necropolis, approximately 45 minutes from Cairo, to see Egypt’s oldest stone pyramid, the Step Pyramid. This pyramid, designed by the renowned architect Imhotep for King Djoser of the 3rd dynasty, represents an important step in the evolution of royal tombs.
You may also visit the Pyramid of Teti, from the 6th dynasty, and the tomb of Kagemni, a noble tomb known for its detailed offerings and hunting scenes, which are remarkably well-preserved.
Finally, transfer to Memphis (now Mit Rahina) to explore the open-air museum, featuring notable artifacts such as the alabaster sphinx and the colossal statue of Ramses II, the famed pharaoh of the New Kingdom who built the impressive Abu Simbel Temples in Aswan.
Return to your hotel for the night.
