Hurghada International Airport is an international airport about 4 km from Hurghada, and the civil airport is located within the scope of the Hurghada military base. In May 1966, the state allocated 102 thousand pounds to prepare Hurghada Airport to receive jet planes carrying tourist groups in response to the desire of tourism companies to land planes coming from Europe directly instead of landing at Cairo International Airport and then traveling to Hurghada. However, after the 1967 war, the airport was allocated to the war effort until victory was achieved in the October War in 1973. With the beginning of the peace talks, the Authority prepared and operated part of this airport for civil aviation flights in November 1977.

In line with forthcoming undertakings, an international and local flight passenger terminal with a capacity of 7.5 million travelers is to be constructed while a new 4 km runway matches with the existing one for accommodating contemporary aircraft.

The structure is made up of three levels covering a space of around 90,000 square meters (around 750 meters long and 135m wide at a height of 20m). The building provides complete separation between departures and arrivals and contains all lounges and services to ensure the comfort of passengers and visitors. The new building includes 11 departure gates connected to the aircraft by direct bridges, in addition to 9 departure gates to serve distant aircraft by buses.
