What to know about Giftun Island in Hurghada

Al- Giftun Island, located east of the city of Hurghada, is considered the most famous marine islands in the Red Sea, as it has become famous, among tourists and visitors to the city of Hurghada, and has become famous among tourist trips, especially the various sea trips, for what this island contains of the divine beauty that God gave to Egypt, and thousands of tourists arrive daily for the different beaches in it. 


Also, the island of Giftun, which is the first destination for parks for all those coming to the tourist city, is located approximately 11 kilometers east of the beaches of Hurghada, and it is the most famous Red Sea islands, and the most important in terms of tourism and environmental activity, as it is the first marine island out of 39 islands authorized to conduct marine activities on its back, as well as the first natural reserve in the Red Sea, which is one of the most important natural habitats for seagulls, and there were old statistics confirmed that it was inhabited by about 50% of the seagulls in the world.


It is 11 kilometers and 700 meters from the shore of Hurghada, and its area is approximately 18 square kilometers, and its surface is dominated by elevation in its northern half, where there is a series of hills whose highest level is 119 meters above sea level, extending from the north to the middle of the island, and its rocks belong to the Pliocene.


The southern part of the island is a plateau of coral rocks ranging from 3-6 m. The coasts of the island are surrounded by coastal coral reefs and extend to the west to Abu Munkar Island and to the south to the small island of Giftun, and the water between the islands and the opposite coast is shallow water no more than 20 m below sea level, while the bottom deepens to the east of it and the depth ranges between 300-500 m below sea level.

Al-Gafton Island represents the most important diving and snorkeling places in the Hurghada region and is used by more than 50% of diving and snorkeling practitioners, which is the best trip so far at all and the most famous, as this island is considered one of the most important sources of income for the Red Sea reserves, which reaches millions of dollars annually.
He also emphasized that Al-Gaftoun plays a key role in the growth of tourism and investment in the Hurghada region, as it is the first island on which tourists are allowed to go down, and it contains the largest number and most important diving sites in the Hurghada region in general, and there are many places that represent important fishing places in the surrounding waters.

It is also considered one of the most important places that contain sensitive ecosystems, especially coral reefs and sea grasses, and is characterized by a high density and diversity of coral reefs, which ranges between 60- 90% in distinctive places, and it is also inhabited by large numbers of birds, some of which are considered endangered, such as eagle vultures and white-eyed gulls (al-Ajma), which nest on it, as well as containing in the northern and eastern region turtle nesting places, especially the hawksbill turtle, and large numbers of dolphins have been recorded in its waters.
The island of Giftun, which contains three beaches equipped with umbrellas and another that is not equipped, is characterized by turquoise water and sandy beaches, and it is the most demanded trip among cruises, and tourism companies organize daily visits for tourists.

The cruise organizer added that the trips to Gifton start early in the morning, and several stops are made while sailing to it, snorkeling, watching reefs, dolphins and small fish, and then arriving to spend a special time and a full day on its picturesque beaches.
