The Citadel underwent significant development over the 700 years following its construction by the renowned Sultan Saladin, with notable enhancements during the Mamluk Sultanate. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1976 and officially opened to the public in 1983, the Citadel remains a key historical landmark.
