Cairo Half-Day Tour to Meidum Archaeological Site

There is much more to Egypt than the Pyramids of Giza. With Cairo Top Tours, you can embark on an extraordinary journey through Egypt’s rich history. Our unique Egypt Day Tours offer an exclusive visit to the Meidum archaeological site, built for King Snefru, the founder of Egypt's 4th dynasty during the Old Kingdom.

Meidum Pyramid Tour

The Meidum Pyramid, one of four constructed for Snefru, the father of King Cheops, stands in the town of Meidum, in the Al-Wasta district of the Beni Suef Governorate, about 90 kilometres southwest of Cairo. This unique monument, which appears as a stepped pyramid but was later encased, was completed by Snefru, marking the transition to smooth-sided pyramids.

Your certified Egyptologist will accompany you in a private deluxe vehicle to Meidum, where you will visit one of the four pyramids constructed for King Snefru of the Fourth Dynasty. This pyramid represents an early attempt to perfect the design, later achieved with the Red Pyramid at Dahshur. At Meidum, you'll see an impressive example of the mastaba-style pyramid, similar to King Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara. Meidum is unique as the first Egyptian pyramid with a burial chamber at its base, featuring splendid arched walls. Today, only the three upper steps of the original structure remain, rising from the sand amidst the ruins.

The Meidum Pyramid, built by Pharaoh Snefru, the father of King Cheops, stands isolated in the desert, surrounded by smaller mastabas. Initially constructed as a stepped pyramid, it was later altered during Snefru's reign to a smooth-sided pyramid by filling the gaps with limestone. After completing your Cairo Day Tours, you will stop at a government-approved papyrus institute for a brief tour, where you'll learn how the ancient Egyptians pioneered paper production, a key factor in the rapid rise of their civilisation.

You will be transferred back to your chosen location once the Meidum Pyramid tour is complete.
