In the early morning, our expert tour guide will meet you and arrange a private vehicle transfer for your Cairo day tour to the Lahun and Lisht Pyramids.
El Lahun is a village in the El Fayoum province, home to the pyramid complex of Senusret II (Sesostris II) and the nearby workers' village, situated about half a mile from the pyramid on the edge of the cultivation area. The pyramid itself is now mostly in ruins, with sand covering its base, and some structures were demolished when a railway was constructed in the area.
The site was first excavated by Flinders Petrie between 1888-90 and later in 1914, revealing numerous household items and tools, indicating a high standard of living at the time. The Kahun papyri, a collection of around a thousand fragments covering legal, mathematical, and medical topics, were also discovered in the village.
Next, we will head to El Lisht, where you'll visit the Pyramid of Amenemhat I, a 12th dynasty king. This was the first pyramid built during the Middle Kingdom, as the kings of the First Intermediate Period and the 11th dynasty did not construct pyramids.
We will also explore the Pyramid of Senusret I, which was surrounded by a large walled complex, including a funerary temple, a rectangular chapel with a central courtyard, and nine smaller pyramids for Senusret's wives and daughters. A limestone causeway, lined with statues, once connected the temple to the Valley Temple outside the inner perimeter. However, much of this is no longer visible due to later Roman constructions built over the ancient site.
After completing your tours, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
