Experience a professional tour guide from Cairo Top Tours as they guide you through our Alexandria day tours. Your day will begin with a transfer from Alexandria to the Wadi El Natrun monasteries, renowned for their natural beauty and cultural significance. Wadi El Natrun is one of the oldest monastic settlements globally and had a significant impact on European monasticism. It is also the final resting place of the last pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
**Historical and Religious Significance:**
Wadi El Natrun is considered the cradle of monasticism. Once home to around fifty monasteries, only four have withstood the test of time and erosion.
Your tour will start with a visit to Deir al-Baramus (Monastery of Barmus), the oldest and most secluded of the surviving four. Next, you'll visit Deir Anba Bishoi (Monastery of St Bishoi), where the body of St Bishoi remains. The tour will conclude with a visit to Deir El-Suryani (Monastery of Al-Suryan), the smallest and best-preserved monastery.
After exploring the monasteries, you'll enjoy lunch before being returned to your hotel in Alexandria.
