Wadi El Rayan in Faiyum | Waterfalls in Wadi El Rayan
Wadi al-Rayyan
Wadi El Rayyan is one of Egypt's natural wonders, found about 65 kilometers to the southwest of Fayoum. It is composed of a charming valley containing two large lakes that were specifically laid out to flow off surplus water in the Fayoum Oasis. However, what makes Wadi El Rayan unique as compared to all other Egypt tour destinations is its only waterfall country.
The initial lake flows and the current flows downwards to a lower area where there is another lake. Rocks are revealed as the riverbed is dropped down and waterfalls are formed, resulting in an amazing waterfall, a site to visit for all those who visit Egypt.
The history of Egypt's magical waterfall at Wadi al-Rayyan
They succeeded in bringing the water back to the top of the dry lake and transformed the Fayoum Oasis into the Garden of Egypt. The waterfall initially occurred as an overflow of wastewater from Fayoum farms.
But in the 20th century, there were serious efforts to make water in the desert area usable for tourism and agriculture. Wadi El-Rayan is now famous not only for its beautiful waterfall but also for two beautiful lakes, created by human effort.
In 2005, Wadi El-Rayan was made Egypt's first protected area due to its unique biodiversity and interesting geological formation. The waterfall is now a tourist attraction in Egypt, and tourists can enjoy several activities like hiking, bird watching, and swimming in the lakes.
Wadi El-Rayan and the waterfall are not just an opportunity to witness the marvels of nature but also to view the astounding history and engineering of Egypt. The only waterfall of Egypt
Wadi El Rayyan is one of Egypt's natural wonders and has the country's only waterfall. Although the falls are not high, they are a fantastic escape for locals and tourists alike, especially for those who have never seen waterfalls before in the country. In fact, the waterfall has been featured in many popular Egyptian movies and videos.
The waterfall will not endure eternally, though, because the water level of the lower lake is rising steadily. The instant the surface area of the lake becomes large enough so that it can store as much water as enters the lake, the waterfall will be gone.
Wadi al-Rayyan now contains two large freshwater lakes at different levels.
The waterfall where the two lakes meet was formed and water was elevated to at least 5-6 meters. The lakes are vegetated with dense vegetation surrounding them and therefore present good breeding sites for fish and passage birds. The area was declared a nature reserve in 1989 and hosts the world's only thin-horned deer, and 13 bird species, in addition to 8 other species.
