Private Tour to Pyramids Ibn Tulun Mosque and Gayer Anderson

Overview

Cairo Pyramids and Ibn Tulun Mosque

Enjoy our tour of the Ibn Tulun Mosque, the only mosque in Egypt that have stayed the same for hundreds of years and the one with the oldest minaret in the country. In addition, the Ibn Tulun Mosque is the only mosque in Egypt whose spiral minaret design was influenced by the Samarra Mosque in Iraq.

See the majestic pyramids of Saqqara and Giza to learn more fascinating facts about them.  In anticipation of their eventual transformation into gods, the Egyptian pharaohs constructed enormous tombs for themselves as well as temples for the gods. These tombs were furnished with all the necessities for a monarch to lead and care for themselves in the afterlife.

The three enormous pyramids are only a single component of a bigger complex that also includes solar boat pits, palaces, temples, and other structures. What you need to know about their construction and who built them is provided here.

Itinerary

The Giza Pyramids will be your first destination.  Our agent will pick you up in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and drive you to the designated destinations from your hotel or Cairo Airport.

Take pleasure in seeing the Sphinx, Menkaure, and Khafre. It is royal in character: The king is depicted as a reclining lion with a human head and covered in mongoose. The Sphinx once wore a false beard. This beard currently exists in a fragmented state, with some parts in Cairo and others in the British Museum.

You will be taken to Ibn Tulun Mosque, which will take you to a different era entirely from the first one, after finishing your tour of the Giza Necropolis and learning about its amazing history, thrilling tales, the religion of the Pharaohs, and everything else associated with this time period.

The Ibn Tulun Mosque will be your destination. The story of building the mosque goes back to when Fustat became too small for its inhabitants, Ahmad Ibn Tulun founded the city of Al-Qata’i in the year 256 AH, and built a congregational mosque in its center, which was completed in the year 265 AH. It is considered one of the largest mosques in the Islamic world, as its area, with the increase, that is, the space surrounding it on all sides except the direction of the qibla, is six and a half acres.

At the end of the tour, you will visit the Gayer-Anderson Museum. The reason for its establishment is that the British officer Gayer-Anderson Pasha submitted a request to the Committee for the Preservation of Arab Antiquities in 1935 to rent the two houses, restore them, furnish them in the Islamic style, and display his collection of Pharaonic and Islamic antiquities, in addition to his possessions dating back to various eras and civilizations from different countries, including India, China, Turkey, Iran, England, and Damascus. This furniture and his collection of antiquities would become the property of the Egyptian people after his death or when he finally left Egypt, and the two houses would be converted into a museum bearing his name. Then you will back to your hotel.

The Ibn Tulun Mosque is located in Cairo, Egypt. Specifically, it is situated in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood, near the Citadel of Saladin and the historic district of Islamic Cairo. The mosque is one of the oldest and largest surviving mosques in the city and is considered a significant architectural and historical landmark.

The 162-meter-long, square-shaped Mosque of Ibn Tulun was built with red brick that had been well-fired and intricately carved stucco fronts over pointed arches. The mosque has undergone multiple full reconstructions since it was first completed by architect Saiid Ibn Kateb Al-Farghany.

While it is not required, it is advised that you show respect for the religious site by covering your skin and donning a headscarf.

The Gayer-Anderson Museum is an old building that was made by combining two houses in the 1600s.  Major R.G. Gayer-Anderson Pasha bought the building in 1935 and got permission to live there for a while from the Egyptian Government.

History: Built by Ahmad ibn Tulun between 876 and 879 AD, the Ibn Tulun Mosque is one of Cairo's oldest mosques. It is noteworthy for both its historical significance and distinctive architectural elements.
