Day Tour to Dahshour and Meidum from Airport

Overview

Egypt has so many ancient riches that most visitors are still unaware of many of its beauties.  I had never heard of the pyramids of Saqqara and Dahshur until traveling throughout the nation.  Despite being around 20 kilometers south of Cairo, these two complexes are definitely worth the drive.

Due of its peculiar design, the Angular Pyramid—also referred to as the Bent Pyramid in other contexts—is the first to be discussed.  In actuality, it is a transitional pyramid between the Saqqara and Giza pyramids, signifying the unidentified builder's pursuit of perfection.  It has collapsed in places. Its dimensions are approximately 189 m x 123 m at the base, while its height is 104 m. Discover more with our flights from Cairo Airport.

Meidum is the least known of Egypt's pyramids, but the most mysterious. It rises to its full height and resembles a castle dungeon. The complex in which it is located is one of the largest monuments in the world. Thanks to the exceptional use of 2.0 archaeology and drones, scientists are diving into the heart of this open-air structure. They are deciphering the stages of its titanic construction and the revolutionary techniques of the time that have allowed this monument to withstand the test of time. Meidum is the enigmatic story of an extraordinary construction site that spanned four decades.

Itinerary

You will be greeted and taken to the Meidum Pyramid when you arrive. Huni, the last pharaoh of the Third Dynasty, had his funerary complex built at Meidum, 80 km south of Cairo. It is to this pharaoh that the last and largest of the step pyramids, which today stands out from a hill of rubble and sand, must be attributed.
The pyramid underwent several stages of construction: the first provided it with seven tiers, made entirely of fine limestone blocks; then the base of the pyramid was widened by about ten meters, each tier was raised by a few meters, and an eighth tier was then perhaps added to the top of the pyramid, which would then have reached 82 meters in height.

The third state of the pyramid is not attributable to Huni but to Snefru, his successor: the latter transformed the step pyramid into a true pyramid with smooth faces.

After that, you will be taken to the Dahshur region to view the South and Bent Pyramids.  Given that he ordered the construction of a second pyramid that was to be far larger than the first, Snefru must not have been happy with the pyramid of Meidum.

Work began, and the pyramid was erected at a steep 54° angle. At 49 meters above the ground, the engineers knew something was off.  The pyramid's mass would not be supported by the soft ground made of clay and sand, which was already beginning to sink.

Due to its peculiar design, the Angular Pyramid—also referred to as the Bent Pyramid in other contexts—is the first to be discussed.  It is a transitional pyramid between the Saqqara and Giza pyramids, signifying the unidentified builder's pursuit of perfection.  It has collapsed in places. After exploring Dahshur, you will be transferred to a local restaurant for lunch, and then we will end our tour with a Nile cruise. A great open-air, timeless journey to capture the soul of the Nile. After that, you will be driven back to Cairo International Airport.

Some of the oldest and best-preserved sites in the world, as well as in Egypt, may be found in Dahshur, Memphis, and Saqqara. From Cairo and Giza, one can take a day trip to Dahshur, Memphis, and Saqqara. And this day trip exceeded every expectation we had.

In general, taking pictures is not forbidden.

Indeed, Egyptians are proud of their food, greenery, and agriculture. Nearly all travelers who have visited Egypt have inquired about the famed cuisine. When visiting Egypt around Easter, Christmas, or New Year's, a visitor probably inquired about "what Egyptians like to eat during this holiday."

If you have enough time in Cairo, then it's a good idea to visit Dahshur. It will help you understand how the pyramids in Giza were built and how they changed from the earlier step pyramid shape to the smoother shape that we see in Giza.

Memphis was the main city of Egypt for a time, for more than 700 years. It was where the important people lived and ruled during the Old Kingdom time. Then, Thebes became the capital for about 485 years, mostly during the Middle and New Kingdoms.
