Rashid National Museum
The museum consists of two buildings, one of which is an archaeological building consisting of three floors, and was originally the home of ‘Arab Kali Hussein Bey’, who was the governor of the city during the Ottoman era. In the 1960s the building was converted into a small museum to highlight the role of the city of Rashid in resisting the French campaign. Then the English Fraser campaign, and in 1986 the museum was developed and reopened to reflect the history of the city of Rashid.
Qaitbay Fortress
Located on the western shore of the Nile River, the Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay built it in 901 AH and is one of the fortress-like military facilities in its square construction and four round towers, surrounded by trenches whose traces still exist today.
The castle is also known by a number of names, such as ‘Tabiya Rashid’, ‘Rosetta Castle’, and ‘Fort Julien’, after one of Napoleon's assistants, where troops from the French campaign landed in 1799, and is the place where the ‘Rosetta Stone’ was found.
