Parade of The Royal Mummies

The royal mummies parade is an international event held on Saturday, April 3, 2021, involving the departure of 22 royal mummies from the Egyptian Museum located in Tahrir Square .

The mummies date back to the dynastic eras from Seventeen to twenty, among which are the mummies of Kings Ramses II, saqnen-Ra, Thutmose III, Seti I, Ramses IX, Ramses VI, Ramses V, Thutmose III, Queen Hatshepsut, Queen Mertamun, wife of King Amenhotep I, and Queen Ahmose Nefertari, wife of King Ahmose I.

 The concert was shown in full on the YouTube channel of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The Itinerary of The Royal Mummies Parade

The procession started moving from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, then passed in front of the obelisk of King Ramses II in Tahrir Square, then headed to Simon Bolivar Square in Garden City and then to the Nile Corniche until it reached Qasr Al-Aini, from there to the wall of the eye stream, then to the Nile gauge.

The number of mummies participating in the procession amounted to 22 Royal pharaonic mummies, eighteen mummies of kings, and four mummies of Queens, and the carriages carrying them moved in the order of the reign of the Kings as follows:

Event highlights

The parade began at eight in the evening (six in the evening GMT) with musical and light shows in the areas of the parade passage. The motorcade provided motorcycles, as it began the journey of about seven kilometers between the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in the city of Fustat. The mummies walked according to the chronological order of the reigns of kings and queens as above, and King saqnun-RA of the seventeenth Egyptian dynasty led the procession of kings.

The mummies were carried on carts decorated with Pharaonic drawings and inscriptions and equipped with an atmosphere containing nitrogen to make the mummies in suitable conditions for transportation, and each cart bears the name of the king in Arabic, English, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Amid tight security, the procession left a century-old museum, accompanied by extras in pharaonic costume, horse-drawn carriages (pharaonic war wheels), under the beating of drums of a brass band, and against the background of symphonic music. The Pharaonic chariots arrived at the new museum around half past eight in the evening, and the artillery fired twenty-one shots and was received by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The procession took about 40 minutes, during which it covered seven kilometers.

The concert was interspersed with musical performances by Egyptian artists. "The whole world will watch this royal procession, it will be forty important minutes in the life of the city of Cairo,"Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass told AFP. Before the show started, the celebrations were opened with a song by Egyptian singer Mohamed Mounir, and Egyptian actors including Ahmed Helmy, Mona Zaki, and Tunisian Hind Sabri read texts about Egyptian civilization. The event aims to promote tourism, culture, and security, healing the wounds of the Egyptian revolution of 2011. The mummies will make an individual presentation next to their coffins, simulating the underground tombs of Kings, accompanied by biographies, and radiographs of some of them. "The mummies will be presented for the first time in a beautiful way, for educational purposes and not for the sake of excitement," says Egyptian Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, according to him, "the frightening form of mummies was a reason in the past for few visits, and he says "I will never forget when I took (Princess) Margaret, the sister of Queen Elizabeth II, to the museum: she closed her eyes and ran away.». The history of mummies

The 22 mummies participating in the procession were discovered in two crypts. The first was discovered in 1881 in the maritime monastery on the West Bank in Luxor in the cemetery of 320 Tiba. The second was in 1889 in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor in the Crypt of the Tomb of King Amenhotep II, Tomb 35.

The music of the concert was prepared and composed by the musician Hisham Nazih, the work was conducted by Maestro Nader Abbasi, and the musical notation of the musical work was performed by Ahmed Al-Moji, the lyrics of the anthem was discovered by the musician Raymond Malak, conductor of the Philharmonic Union choir, which is an anthology of hymns to the majesty of the goddess Isis in the temple of Deir el-shalwit in Luxor, and the linguistic and historical review was performed by Professor Dr. Maysara Abdullah Hussein, professor at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, and sung by the choir consisting of 90 Singer and played by a hundred of the most skilled orchestra players the Philharmonic Union is led by Maestro Nader Abbasi.
