
Airport of Alexandria
Borg El Arab International Airport (IATA: HBE, ICAO: HEBA) is an Egyptian international airport located in the Thane Ameria District of Alexandria, with an area of about 8,520 acres (34.47 km2), about 49 km from the center of Alexandria in the south - west direction, and about 14 km from the new city of Borg El Arab in the east direction established to relieve Nozha airport, the airport served more than 1.2 million passengers with a total of 1,112 domestic and international flights during 2021, the airport the airport is one of the main hubs of EgyptAir, the main hub of Air Arabia Egypt, and can be reached through the El kafouri-Burj El Arab El jadida road.
In early 1998, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority began considering the establishment of a new International Airport on part of the land of the Burj Al-Arab Air Base, which was originally allocated to the Civil Aviation Authority, the authority commissioned the consulting office to develop a design for the establishment of an international airport to receive flights instead of Nozha airport, whose runways cannot withstand large aircraft due to the nature of the land, in addition to obstacles from buildings violating height rights around the airport, the new airport building opened in October 2010.
Terminal No. 1
The building was opened in 2010, on an area of 22 thousand m2, and its capacity reaches one million and 200 thousand passengers annually, and aircraft parking lots accommodate 11 aircraft of various models, the building consists of three floors, containing 18 counters for receiving departing bags, an automated baggage system containing one travel Route, 3 arrival belts, 8 passport documentation counters for departing passengers, 10 passport documentation counters for arriving passengers. In addition to four gates connected by bridges to deliver passengers to the aircraft through them, unlike the other gates where passengers will be transported to the aircraft by buses.
The development of the airport is planned after the opening of Terminal 2.
Terminal No. 2
A new passenger terminal with a capacity of 4 million passengers per year is currently being constructed on an area of about 36 thousand M2, with a soft loan provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA to the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation worth about 18.2 billion Japanese yen, the terminal includes 40 check-in counters, 16 passport counters, aircraft parking lots accommodating 20 aircraft of various models, the building is considered the first environmentally friendly passenger terminal in Africa and the Middle East.
Cargo Village
The airport includes a cargo village on an area of 24 thousand M2, opened in 2010 at a cost of about 550 million dollars, with an operating capacity of about 10 thousand tons of various cargo, and includes an aircraft parking lot accommodating one cargo plane.
