Full Day Trip to Abu Simbel and High dam

Overview

On the banks of the Nile in Aswan, we invite you to embark on a historic journey to explore two of Egypt's most iconic sites: the High Dam and the temple of Abu Simbel.

You will enjoy a very valuable experience in Aswan with an unforgettable visit to the temples of Abu Simbel. It is an archaeological site located on the western shore of Lake Nasser, about 290 km southwest of Aswan. It is one of the “Nubian archaeology” sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Part of the direction of the river current that runs from Abu Simbel to Philae (near Aswan), The construction of the Great Temple of Abu Simbel lasted almost twenty years, and was completed in about 24 years of the reign of Ramses the Great (equivalent to 1265 BC). It was dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Harakheti and Ptah, as well as to Ramses. It is generally considered the most magnificent temple commissioned during the reign of Ramses II, and one of the most beautiful in Egypt.

You will also enjoy an incredible experience at the Alta Presa. It is a hydroelectric dam on the Nile River in southern Egypt, built during the reign of Gamal Abdel Nasser and to whose construction the Soviet Union contributed. Itinerary

A trip from Aswan to Abu Simbel and the High Dam offers you a unique opportunity to discover one of Egypt's most famous sites and one of the most important engineering endeavors in the nation's history.

In the morning, one of our friendly representatives with an expert guide from Cairo Top Tours will be waiting for you at your hotel in Aswan to take you in a private air-conditioned car to one of the most famous temples in the world, the Temple of Abu Simbel. It was carved into the mountain as a monument to Ramses II and Queen Nefertari to commemorate their victory at the Battle of Kadesh and to deter rebels from southern Egypt. Construction of the temple began around 1244 BC and lasted about twenty years until 1224 BC.

In the Abu Simbel area, you will have the opportunity to see the statues that stand on either side of the vestibule leading to the ‘Holy of Holies’ and represent four gods: Amun-Ra, Ra-Hor-Akhti, Ptah, and Ramses II. When discussing the construction of the temple, the greatness of the Egyptians in the construction is evident, as the sun only enters the interior of the temple on two days a year, 22 February and 22 October, when the statues in the temple are illuminated, except for the statue of the idol.

After that, we will start another adventure in Aswan, the magical High Dam. It should be noted here that the first person to refer to the construction of this dam was the Arab Muslim scientist Al-Hassan ibn Al-Hassan ibn Al-Haytham (born in 965 AD and died in 1029 AD). He did not have the opportunity to carry out his idea because the necessary machinery to build it was not available in his time.
