Today, after having breakfast at the hotel, we will visit one of Egypt's most recognized sites, The Great Pyramids of the Giza Plateau, ten miles south of downtown Cairo on the edge of this metropolitan city. One of the last wonders of the ancient world still standing, with its three Great Pyramids, (Cheops) over 4,000 years old, the oldest and largest of the three. Khafre (Chephren) is the only one that still has the top covered with the original stone, and Menkaura (Mycerinus) is the smallest. Although it is not for everyone the entrance to the Pyramids can be arranged at an additional cost.
At the foot of the Great Pyramids is the mysterious Sphinx, almost entirely carved from a single piece of limestone. It is one of the most photographed ancient monuments in the world. Without a doubt, your visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza will be one of the most memorable of your tours in Cairo.
