Tumba de Baqet III

The Tomb of Baqet III

This tomb belongs to Baqat III Ibn Remushin, the two of whom were rulers of the sixteenth district of Upper Egypt, in the early twelfth dynasty. The tomb consists of a courtyard that leads to the entrance that gives access to the colonnaded hall.

A small shrine was added in the south corner on the right, where an imaginary door was carved on the western wall, and in front of it a table for offerings.

This tomb contains the same designs and inscriptions found in the rest of the tombs of Beni Hassan

It has a decorative frieze at the top, which the ancient Egyptians called "Khaker". As with the upper cemetery tombs of Beni Hassan, the north wall (left of the entrance) depicts hunting scenes in the desert. This same wall, like Kheti's tomb, depicts scenes of everyday life. It depicts barbers, as well as scenes of weaving, and young women playing and performing acrobatics.

This wall also contains scenes of sandalmakers and goldsmiths, and a scene of tax collection where tax defaulters are forcibly brought before the responsible clerk.

Also interesting is the row at the bottom which, besides hunting, depicts different types of fish and birds, as well as bats. More animals can be seen on the south wall, facing a cat and a mouse, below which are two monkeys, a male and a female, the latter carrying a baby monkey on her back.

In the back, two baboons. The eastern wall depicts scenes of gladiators, military exercises, and, more prominently, pairs of gladiators. There are a lot of them here: 220 pairs, to be exact, all in different poses, and in each pair, one wrestler was painted red and the other dark brown so that the interaction between them could be seen clearly.
