The largest Roman cemetery in Egypt, The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, consists of three layers of tombs and chambers cut out of the rock under the ground, and the beautifully decorated burial of a rich romanized Egyptian family. After that, you will visit Pompey’s Pillar, the only remaining pillar from the Roman temple known anciently as the Serapeum. You will move to The Citadel of Qaitbey, built by the Mamluk rulers to fortify the Mediterranean seacoast against the Ottomans, on the same spot where Alexandria’s ancient lighthouse once stood as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world that no longer exist.
You will also be impressed by The Bibliotheca of Alexandria. It was not only an important ancient library but also the Centre of learning, and scientific research in the ancient world and a destination for scholars from all over the Mediterranean and beyond. It contains 8 million books, the new Bibliotheca is the most important modern project in Alexandria built adorning the sea boulevard like the sun of knowledge is rising upon the Mediterranean from Alexandria.
The car will also take you to the Church of San Marco, one of the oldest churches in Africa, and to the historic center of Alexandria, where you can enjoy a stroll through the old town. See the local markets; selling everything and anything including sweets and traditional Egyptian delicacies.
The architecture features local Baroque designs as well as Italian and French-style properties. we will take you through the oldest market area in Mansheya and see the traditional women's markets (Zan'et Elsetat) with very thin and narrow streets, gold market also exists here where everyone buys jewelry for marriage and engagement.
The car will then take you to the most beautiful and largest mosque in the city: Abbo Elabbas Mosque. The strangest sight out there: an old funfair where children play on age-old carousels and eat cotton candy. Opposite the Corniche and the old port where you can see the old fishing boats, fishermen, and traditional fishermen making nets. The photos taken there are amazing.
