Starting your overnight tour to El Minya from Luxor by visiting the site of Tal El Amarna, which is a huge Egyptian archaeological site that contains the remains of (Akhetaten), the capital city that was founded in 1346 B.C the Pharaoh Akhenaten, who ruled Egypt during the late eighteenth dynasty new kingdom and is believed to be the father of the golden king Tutankhamen.
Akhenaten, whose old name was Amenhotep IV, ruled Egypt from 1352 B.C. for 16 years. He replaced his name and prevented the older religion by cherishing the monotheistic devotions of God Aten, the sun god. He established a new capital that was declared as (ikt in) or the horizon of God Aten, now known as Tel El-Amarna or Amarna Hill, and located roughly 30 miles south of the present Minya. Even the artwork presented during the reign of Akhenaten was pretty different, as for the first time the royal family members were represented in realism, not in the ideal form as it used to be before the cult of Aten.
